SNA Minutes - February 16, 2004

  • This meeting was called to order at 3:07 p.m. Officers present were Kristal Lee (President), Robert Ware (VP2), Mary Philips (Treasurer), Christie Aguirre (Pre-Nursing Liaison), and Beverly Hill (Webmaster).

  • DONATION FOR NIKITA COBB: We have a list of things they need, however, any monetary donation would be appreciated. See Mary, Kristal, or Rob.

  • UPCOMING EVENTS:
    • Recruitment Fair, Monday, March 8th in the Student Center from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Hospitals confirmed: Northside, Children Healthcare of Atlanta, VA, South Fulton, Rockdale, Army Nurse Corps, Emory, Spaulding Regional, Dekalb Medical, Henry Medical, Piedmont, and more. This is a great opportunity for Juniors to receive information about externships and for Seniors to learn about job opportunities.

    • Kendrick BP Screening, Thursday, February 19th beginning at 6:00 p.m.

    • COSP, Saturday, February 21 at Braenau University. GANS board members meet with other leaders and members from schools to discuss upcoming events, tips on fundraising, etc. This would be a great opportunity for anyone who might be interested in running for a SNA board member position.

  • NSNA CONVENTION:  26 people are going to the convention. You will need to complete travel paperwork and return it to Kristal. If you need the travel forms, contact Kristal or Jerita. There will be a mandatory meeting on Monday, March 29 after the SNA meeting, for those attending nationals.

  • MEMBERSHIP DUES: If you joined NSNA online, please send a copy of the confirmation form to Mary so you can be added as a member. SNA membership certificates were passed out. If you did not receive one, they will be passed out again at the next meeting.

  • RUNNING FOR SNA OFFICE: Job descriptions of each office was read and have been posted online. Everyone interested will need to print off an application and submit it in a sealed envelope by 5:00 p.m., March 08, 2004.  The envelope should be placed in the box on Dr. McAllister's door. Once you have submitted an application, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from Kristal stating that your application has been reviewed, GPA verified, and you are eligible to run for office. All applicants must present a 2-3 minute candidate speech at the SNA meeting on March 29 at 3:00 p.m. Current officers will ask you one question and if time permits, students will be allowed to ask the candidates questions. Kristal will advise instructors that candidate speeches will be made that day.

  • VOTING FOR SNA OFFICER: Online voting will run April 05-07, 2004. Only CSU e-mail accounts will be accepted. This will eliminate the possibility of someone voting more than once. The winner will be announced at the last SNA meeting on Monday, April 12, 2004.

  • BOOKS ONLINE: Christy shared a website that has nursing books and other books at a good price. The URL is www.nursesbooksociety.com.

  • This meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
