SNA Board Position Descriptions

 

 

Interested in applying for a board member position? It's as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Review the position descriptions.
  2. Select the position you would like to run for.
  3. Complete the application and submit it by the deadline listed below.  (Contact Chris Barnes at csu14754@mail.claytonstate.net for an application)

DEADLINE:

  • Applications MUST be submitted by 5:00, February 23, 2006. Place the application in a sealed envelope marked "APPLICATION" and deposit the envelope in the SNA mailbox located on the wall in C-37. 

DETAILS:

  • Current SNA members are eligible to apply for office.
  • You must have a GPA of at least 3.0 to apply.
  • You will receive a confirmation e-mail from Chris Barnes stating that your application has been reviewed, GPA verified, and you are eligible to run for office.
  • Each candidate must present a candidate defense at the next SNA meeting (TBA). The defense will relate to that particular position you are applying for and will consists of questions (no more than 2-3) directed toward success in that position. The respective current officer will ask you the questions and if time permits, we will take questions from the other SNA members.
  • Chris will advise faculty members about the candidate defense session. If you are running for office and have a class during the SNA meeting timeframe, please let Chris Barnes know the name of the class and instructor.
  • Voting will be held online (on WebCT) February 27 through March 2 or when we have enough running for office.  
  • Winners will be announced during Spring break.  They will be posted on the SNA website and WebCT. 

 

 


 

 

Position Descriptions

Only members who shall be nursing students throughout the full term of office (Fall 07'- Spring 08') or have the privileges of active membership shall be eligible for the office of President, First or Second Vice President, Treasurer, Breakthrough to Nursing Director, Secretary, or Webmaster. Only members who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above shall be eligible to run for any CSNA office. CSNA officers will also be members of the NSNA and GANS throughout the term of office. - CSNA 06'-07' Bylaws

  

President:  * Only Seniors Can Apply for President *

The main responsibility of the President is to give leadership to the association and to serve as its spokesperson. In addition, the President calls the meetings of the executive board and serves as a liaison between the faculty, Student Life Office, and State Chapter (GANS).

In order to work effectively, the President must see that all board members understand their responsibilities. The President must delegate responsibility to encourage broad participation of the board members. The president must know how to use resources, to fine current issues in nursing, and to get things accomplished.

Some of the few specific tasks of the president include, but is not limited to:

  1. Preside at all meetings of the CSNA and the Executive Board; and

  2. Appoint special committees with the approval of the Executive Board; and

  3. Serve as ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee; and

  4. Ensure that members submit all appropriate award applications to GANS and NSNA; and

  5. Organize the CSNA annual meeting; and

  6. Represent the CSNA in matters relating to the CSNA and perform all other duties pertaining to the office.

  7. Coordinate the governmental affairs' activities of CSNA; and

  8. Be responsible for review and recommendations for change in bylaws; and

  9. Review resolutions for proper format and references and submit to the resolutions committee chairperson of the GANS; and

  10. Perform all duties pertaining to organization of orientation in cooperation with faculty and staff.

1st Vice President:
Acts in the absence of the President during meetings or appearances. 

Some specific duties include, but is not limited to:

  1. Produce, edit and distribute the CSNA newsletter (SNA Times); and

  2. Provide pertinent information regarding CSNA and activities to appropriate agencies including at least one article to Imprint (NSNA's official publication); and

  3. Coordinate all activities and arrangements of the state and national conventions; and

  4. Perform all duties assigned by the President.

2nd Vice President:
Acts in the absence of the President and/or the 1st Vice President.

Some specific duties include, but is not limited to:

  1. Assume duties of the President in the absence or disability of the President; and

  2. Coordinate all fund raising done by the CSNA in support of its activities; and

  3. Organize portfolio opportunities to be provided by SNA; and

  4. Act as liaison to the Office of Student Life and the Alumni Association; and

  5. Perform all duties assigned by the President.

Treasurer: * Only Seniors Can Apply for Treasurer *

The Treasurer will receive, disburse, and keep account of SNA funds. The Treasurer will keep a record of all dues, and works with the President and Office of Student Life to develop an annual budget.

Some specific duties include, but is not limited to:

  1. Act as a custodian of CSNA funds; and

  2. Sign checks or vouchers for monetary disbursements as the bylaws provide and set deadlines for members to submit receipts for reimbursements within two weeks from date of purchase or convention date; and

  3. Submit annual budget recommendations for approval by the Executive Board; and

  4. Perform all duties assigned by the President.

 Secretary:
The primary responsibility of the secretary is to take minutes at all SNA meetings. Minutes are an office record of the proceedings of an organization's meeting. Minutes provide an impartial record of what was done. Accuracy and clarity are important. If the Secretary is unable to attend the monthly SNA meeting, it is the responsibility of the Secretary to appoint another SNA member to take the meeting minutes in their absence.

Some specific duties include, but is not limited to:

  1. Prepare the minutes of all business meetings of the CSNA and Executive Board; and

  2. Inform the NSNA and GANS of all current programs and activities and provide up-to-date names and addresses of district offices; and

  3. Inform all CSNA members of association meetings through announcement postings two weeks in advance when time allows and notify all Executive Board members by telephone of CSNA association and Executive Board meetings; and

  4. Act as liaison between Clayton State University SGA and the CSNA; and

  5. Perform all duties assigned by the President.

 BTN Director: 

Breakthrough to Nursing (BTN) is NSNA's project to increase the number and diversity of students choosing nursing as a career.

The responsibilities of the BTN Director include, but is not limited to:

  1. Act as liaison between pre-nursing students at Clayton State University, Department of Nursing, and other Affiliated schools; and

  2. Act as a liaison with the Office of Student Affairs for recruitment purposes; and

  3. Perform all duties related to membership in NSNA and assume Project-In-Touch (NSNA membership drive program) Recruiter status; and

  4. Organize and execute fundraising activities for orientation including and limited to: Clinical Supplies Sale and SNA Membership Sign-Up

  5. Perform all duties assigned by the President.

 SNA Webmaster:

The main responsibility of the Webmaster is to update and maintain the SNA website. Some specific duties include, but is not limited to:
  1. Update and maintain the Clayton State University SNA website according to the needs of the organization.

  2. Use list serves to send mass communication emails to members and potential members of SNA.

  3. Perform all duties assigned by the President

  4. Basic knowledge of FrontPage and Adobe Acrobat is helpful. Other web software knowledge is helpful, but not a must.
  5. Must be organized and able to post information in a timely manner.
