CONSTITUTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS ASSOCIATION
Purpose:
We the students of the International Awareness Association of Clayton College & State University,
in order to provide for the general welfare of the international students enrolled here, do hereby establish this
Constitution of the International Awareness Association of Clayton College & State University.
Article 1
Nature and Function of the International Awareness Association
The International Awareness Association of Clayton College & State University shall be
heretofore known as IAA and shall work in an representative capacity for all the international
students enrolled and to formulate events as well as policies that it may be empowered to formulate.
The function of the IAA will be to provide for the general welfare of the international
student body by providing appropriate student activities; providing the student body with necessary
information that may be of its concern; and providing, in and of itself, a means for student input and opinion in the organization.
Article II
The International Awareness Association shall consist of four (4) executive officers and as many members as
there are nationalities represented on campus. The President of the International Awareness Association,
along with the positions of Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer shall be elected by the general body of the IAA.
1. President.
The chief executive officer of the IAA shall be elected by the general body of the IAA. The President shall:
a. Preside at all regular and special meetigns of the IAA and ensure a due performance by the members of IAA and shall have the privelege of debate at all IAA meetings.;
b. Represent the IAA at all official functions
c. Represent the IAA at the Council of Clubs
d. Be the administrative head of IAA
e. Vote only to break a tie
f. Have any power to veto any act of the IAA (a two-thirds vote by the IAA shall override a veto by the President.)
g. Nominate assistants as the President may deem necessary
h. Set guidelines for voting membership in the IAA
2. Vice President.
The Vice President of the IAA shall be elected by the general student
body of the IAA. The Vice President shall:
a. attend all regular and special meetings of the IAA
b. suceed to the Presidency should that office become vacant
c. in the absence of the President, preside at all regular and special meetings of the IAA, be the representative to the Council of Clubs, and represent the student body at all school functions;
d. be responsible for all internal and external publicity, press releases, and public relations
e. appoint, with majority consent, a public relations director to assist with these functions;
f. have one vote and the privelege to engage in debate at all IAA meetings
3. Secretary.
The Secretary of the IAA shall be elected by the general body of the IAA.
The Secretary shall:
a. attend all regular and special meetings of the IAA, be responsible for taking minutes at each meeting, typing and distributing these minutes before the next regularly held meetign of the IAA, including forwarding copies of all action items, minutes, and other appropriate materials to the Office of Student Life and the SGA.
b. Keep and maintain an attendacne record at all meetings of the IAA
c. Keep and maintain all records and perform all dudties consistent with the office of Secretary;
d. Be responsible for any correspondence or itnerdepartmental memoranda memoranda of the IAA;
e. File the activiteis registration forms with the Office of Student Life before all IAA meetings and activities; and
f. Have one vote and the privilege to engage in debate at all IAA meetings.
4. Treasurer.
The Treasurer shall be elected by the general body of the IAA. The
Treasurer shall:
a. have the responsibility of reviewing and approving all requistions for expenditures of the IAA;
b. maintain all financial records of the IAA and make budget information available upon request to the IAA
c. perform all such duties consistent with the office of the Treasurer; and
d. have one vote and the privilege to engage in debate at all IAA meetings.
5. Members.
Membership of the IAA is open to all currently enrolled students at
Clayton College & State University. Membership policies shall be determined by the President of the IAA in conjunction with advice from the faculty/staff advisor and with approval from the IAA according to the needs of the organization. Each member shall have one vote and the privilege to engage in debate at all IAA meetings.
Article III
General Powers
The IAA shall:
1. Promote the general welfare of the international students by obtaining student
Suggestions and opinions and recommending/hosting appropriate policies, regulations, and events to the decision-making officers and/or bodies of Clayton College & State University in matters which concern the general welfare of the international student body based on student consensus.
2. Insitute and carry out programs and policies, as it dems significant and of
Interest to the students, that are not in conflict with those of other campus bodies
3. choose an advisor to the IAA from the faculty
4. be active in the Council of Clubs
Article IV
Elections
1. Time of elections and terms of office:
a. Elections of the Executive officers shall take place no earlier than the first week after the beginning of the Spring term and no later than the week preceding the last day of classes.
b. Terms of office for all members of the IAA shall be for the period of one academic year.
2. Qualifications to run time to take office, and oath of office:
a. All elected executive members of the IAA shall carry at least six (6) credit hours a semester during the academic year and have a minimum grade point average of 2.0
b. All members shall have a mininmum grade point average of 2.0
c. The newly elected members of the IAA shall take office upon taking the oath of office at an installation of the IAA following the elections.
d. The oath of office shall be the following:
I, (name), do solemnly swear or affirme that I will uphold, defend, and protect the Constitution of the International Awareness Association of Clayton College & State University and that I will execute the duties of my position to the best of my abilities and respect all members of this organization, without regard to race, gender and religious affiliation.
Article V
Attendance and Vacancies
1. The IAA shall have the power to make and enforce attendance policies for its
members.
2. The IAA shall have the power to determine the manner in which vacancies in
The IAA shall be filled.
Article VI
Ratification of the Constitution and Amendments
1. This Constitution or amendments thereto shall be ratified when approved by
Two-thirds vote of the International Awareness Association.
2. The taking effect of this entire Constitution shall revoke all previous
Constitutions (and amendments thereto) of the International Awareness Association of Clayton College & State University.
