Pre-Pharmacy Student Association (PPSA) Constitution

  Article I -NAME

Section I:         The organization shall be known as the Pre-Pharmacy Student Association (PPSA) at Clayton State University.

 Section II:      The PPSA shall consist of its elected officers and its individual club members.

 Section III:     It shall be known that the founders of this organization are Loren Hardeman, Dione Postway, Thanh Huynh, and Crystal Beal, with Dr. Susan Hornbuckle serving as the first advisor to PPSA.

Article II-PURPOSE

 To provide academic and career information to pre-pharmacy students who have an interest in a career in the field of pharmacy.

Article III-Nature and Function

Section I:         To promote awareness of knowledge relevant to the field of pharmacy through its guest speakers, monthly meetings, and the PPSA website.  

Section II:       To present information on the application and admission process to the schools of pharmacy in Georgia and provide information pertaining to the PCAT.

Section III:      To manage and encourage unity and communication between members.

Article IV: Membership

Section I:         The organization is open to any current and future enrolled students at Clayton State University who express an interest in Pharmacy.

Section II:       All members will be required to pay a $5 membership fee every semester. Each member will receive an official PPSA membership card renewable every school year.

Article V-Officers and Rules of Election

 Section I:       The officers of the Pre-Pharmacy Student Association shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Section II:       The President will hold the chief of executive office of the PPSA and shall be elected by the student body. The duties of the President are as follows.

  1. Preside over all meetings of the PPSA and ensure an active performance as a member of the PPSA, including representing the student body at all functions.
  2. The President shall make recommendations for PPSA appointments with faculty but must have consent from at least 2/3 of the PPSA members.
  3. Appoint chairs of committees when it is necessary.
  4. Preside over the voting to break an undecided action.
  5. Announce all meetings to student body.
  6. Be professionally dressed for every meeting and confirm all speakers.

Section III:      The Vice President of the PPSA shall be elected by the student body. The duties of the Vice President are as follows.

  1. Be professionally dressed for every meeting and attend all meetings of PPSA.
  2. Chairman of all committees and assist in presidential duties.
  3. Preside over all meetings in the absence of the president.
  4. Represent the student body at all school functions.
  5. Set up meetings with speakers and reserve rooms
  6. Assume all Presidential responsibilities until that term expires in the case of the vacancy of the Office of the President.

Section IV:     The Secretary of the PPSA shall be elected by the student body. The duties of the Secretary are as follows.

  1. Be professionally dressed for every meeting and attend all meetings.
  2. Record all minutes.
  3. The secretary is responsible for creating agendas for the meetings.
  4. Update the website after meetings and events.

Section V:       The Treasurer of the PPSA shall be elected by the student body. The duties of the Treasurer are as follows.

  1. Be professionally dressed for every meeting and attend all meetings.
  2. Bookkeeping of all funds.
  3. Find information on fundraisers.
  4. Aid the Secretary on updating the website.

Section VI:     Election shall be held at the last club meeting of the academic year.  Closed ballot will be the designated election method. Club members may nominate themselves for an office position.  He/she must give a brief speech explaining their background and reason for running for an office. The majority vote will win.

Section VII:    Any students running for any office must have gained membership status prior to the election date.

 

Section VIII:  If an office is vacant, then the club must hold an election to fill the position.

 

Section IX:     If an officer plans to resign, then he/she must give a one week notice before leaving.

 

Section X:       Advisor and all officers must meet once every month or more if necessary, to discuss ideas in regards to upcoming events. 

 

Section XI:     The term for every office position will be from August to May of the next year. There are no limitations on how many terms any given officer may serve.

 

Section XII: Dr. Susan Hornbuckle will be recognized as the advisor of the Pre-Pharmacy Student Association at Clayton State University. She will uphold this position as long as she wishes. If Dr. Hornbuckle is ever to retire, quite, or get terminated from Clayton State University, then she will lose her position as advisor. 

 

Section XIII:  If four-fifths of the officers and two-thirds of active members of the PPSA believe that a new officer or advisor is deemed necessary, then the officer or advisor is forced to resign from their office and the position must be fulfilled by majority vote.

 

Section XIV:   This constitution may be amended or ratified at any regular meeting of the club by two-thirds vote, of all acting officers and members combined.
